Joan Benoit Samuelson to make Milwaukee appearance
Joan Benoit Samuelson, the winner of the first women's marathon in the 1984 Olympics, will be in Asics Onitsuka Tiger Milwaukee for a special event on Oct. 3 in advance of the 2012 Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon on Oct. 7.
Samuelson will host the Wisconsin premiere of a new documentary she released with Nike. Called "There Is No Finish Line," the film chronicles her journey in the 1984 Olympics and the strides made by her and other women in the sport.
The screening of the film and the other events will be hosted by the University of WisconsinMilwaukee. The film and talk will be shown at UWM's student union.
Samuelson is a multiple winner of marathons, including two Boston Marathons and the Chicago Marathon. She is the only woman to run five sub 2:50 marathons over five decades.
